Island Deaf and Hard of Hearing Centre (IDHHC) Closure

  • Jun 26
  • 1 min read

On June 25, 2026, Island Deaf and Hard of Hearing Centre (IDHHC) announced that due to ongoing funding shortages it would be closing permanently as of June 30th. This is incredibly sad news and this loss of services will have a profound impact across Vancouver Island and the province.

We recognize that the announcement of their imminent closure may be particularly stressful for Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and DeafBlind community members who may now have questions about the continuity of service for sign language interpreters or TypeWell Transcribers arranged through IDHHC.

In anticipation of an increase in requests, Still Interpreting Inc has increased staffing through the end of this week and next week to ensure we are able to serve additional clients reaching out to book ASL Interpreters and TypeWell Transcribers. We are committed to supporting the continuity of service provision through this time of transition.

With an extensive network of interpreters from around Vancouver Island, we provide services in Victoria, Langford, Sooke, Duncan, Nanaimo, Parksville, Courtenay, Campbell River, and the North Island.

For more information on booking a sign language interpreter, you can visit our services page or our book an interpreter page to send a request. Information about transcribing services can be found on our TypeWell Transcription page.
